Honey Apple Cider
Honey Apple Cider
Homemade honey apple cider screams ‘Fall’. It’s incredibly easy to make, and perfect for a cool autumn day. Bonus- your home will smell amazing during the cooking process!
You will need:
• Stockpot
• Potato masher
• Fine strainer/cheesecloth
• 2 gallon container/pitcher to refrigerate or serve
Ingredients:
• 10-12 medium-sized apples
• 2 oranges (peeled)
• 1 tablespoon whole cloves
• 4 cinnamon sticks
• 1 tsp whole allspice (⅛ tsp ground allspice)
• 16 cups water
• ¼ - ½ cup Raw Local Honey
Instructions:
Cut the apples and oranges into quarters.
Combine apples, oranges, cloves, cinnamon sticks, all spice, and water in a stockpot.
Heat to high and bring to a boil. Once at a boil, reduce to medium-low, bring to a simmer and cover.
Simmer for 2 hours, or until the apples are super soft. Occasionally stir and check on the cider.
After 2 hours, take a potato masher and mash all of the apples and oranges in the stockpot.
Use a cheesecloth to strain stockpot contents into a large bowl. Press on them with a potato masher/wooden spoon to release all the juices.
Spin cloth to seal and set cheesecloth in a bowl- place in the freezer to cool.
While still hot, sweeten with honey. Start with ¼ cup honey and increase to desired sweetness.
Stir until honey is dissolved.
Once cheesecloth has cooled, strain juices out of cloth.
Discard/compost the solid contents of the cheesecloth.
Serve warm and enjoy!
